Oxford Diecast: HUE 166, the first Land Rover
Oxford Diecast is already quite some time active creating model cars, but since recently it lacked an official importer in the Netherlands. This has now been solved and we took the opportunity to request two samples to be able to view and judge the model cars by Oxford Diecast. We asked for a Mini and a Land Rover.
We were pleasantly surprised by the Landy, which turned out to be Huey 166! For those unaware of Huey 166, this is the oldest living Land Rover worldwide! It’s name is based on the license plate: HUE 166. This oldest livign Land Rover was built and licensed in 1948. For English cars it is common to nickname them after their license plate.
The model car by Oxford Diecast has a direct recognition: the charme of being an ‘old car’ is very well captured, mostly by the use of the colors, which seem to be spot on with the original. With a sales price of around Euro 13,- it is a fine model car with nice details. The original Huey 166 was already fitted with lots of aluminum parts and the model car version also features nice aluminum details. Like the front and rear bumper, protective corner pieces and hings for the doors. Did we first doubt the heigth of the body, after examining the images of the original Huey we must conclude Oxford Diecast did get the looks very well.
Our first encounter with Oxford Diecast is very positive. We are certainly getting all 1/76 releases for Q4 2009 and furtheron and also we will get the 1/43 model cars.
