Minichamps 1/64: Bentley, Porsche, Fiat
The latest preliminary model car release by Minichamps in scale 1/64 appeared for our camera. Unfortunately the announced Aston Martin is delayed until at least March 2010. We did photograph the Bentley Brooklands, the hip Fiat 500 and another couple of Porsches, the 911 Carrera S4 as coupe and cabrio. Both 911’s are the latest version. Third Porsche is a Boxster.

Shelby Collectibles Aston Martin DBR1 LeMans
Sometimes new model cars are released which, when you hold them in your hands, amaze you regarding detailling and make you think, this cannot be matched. Such a model car is the Aston Martin DBR1, winner LeMans 1959 by Shelby Collectibles. This perfect litte model car and as far as I’m aware, it is their first non Shelby. Buth the Aston was driven during the LeMans race in 1959 by Carroll Shelby.
What makes this model so special? Frist, it is in true 1/64 scale (not a tid larger, or 3 Inch, no spot on). Second, both doors open and these doors are so extremely small! Also the hood opens to reveal a tiny engine block. Third, the paint is above average. Color is ok and even the gloss is perfect. I can go on like this, mentioning the tonneau cover (the cover over the passenger seat during racing) is removable. The wheels are nice imitations of the originals. And all this for E 6,35 (E 5,34 ex TAX) at Tiny Toy Cars. Next to the Citroen Mehari by Norev, this is my nomination for 3 Inch model of 2009!
Kyosho British Sports Car collection
This week we received the British Sports Car collection by Kyosho from Japan. It is always a pleasure to unpack the modelcars, because the packaging does not tell which car is inside. The idea is to trade cars with friends afterwards.
But we’re talking model cars here. Again the modelcars are excellent and I can enjoy the simple solutions choosen by the Japanese designers for complex details on the real cars. The TVR Sagaris has a few unique details and these are wonderfully on the model with simple solutions. The overload in McLaren F1 modelcars may scare a few collectors, but now it is possible to complete your collection of any F1 car by McLaren.
We do have complaints though. Quality Control. Or the lack of it. Out of the 240 model cars received, 15 are useless and cannot be used in sale. Mirrors are mounted in the wrong way, bases are loose or do not close to the body work, missing parts like rear lights or head lights, out of alignment mounted spoilers, bad tampo work on the racers and cars fitted to the wrong plinth. Kyosho, you can and must do better than this!

Kyosho Mini Car: British Racing
Another incredible set by Kyosho is being produced: British Racing! Expected in October. Indeed some models have been done before in schale 1/64 (McLaren -> Minichamps) but that is quite some time ago. Undoubtly this set will sell very well if we take into account the proven quality by Kyosho from previous releases in their Mini Car model car series. TVR, Jaguar and Aston Martin are an instand guarantee for well selling models.
